UNFOLDING THE MEDIUM

European Ceramic Work Centre, The Netherlands, 2015

The work possesses a strong relationship with the context of development. It was during a residency at the European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC), that 50 objects from outside and inside the building were collected while the building was still under construction.

All collected objects passed through a registration process using 3D scanning technologies. Some were impossible to scan while others suffered deformations during the digital translation process.

The registration process realized considerable differences in the fidelity from certain objects to others. Four objects of the collection were selected on the basis of particularly interesting deformations and the impossibility to be reproduced by means of traditional plaster molds and casting clay techniques.

The result is a collection of four ceramic objects displaying two styles of deformation. The first one is a result of material and light conditions during the 3D scanning process. The second is a low fidelity translation thanks to the path of the CNC mill.
